Located on the coast between the busy city of Bristol and seaside day trippers' mecca, Weston-super-Mare, is the town of Clevedon. Like Weston, Clevedon grew into a town as a result of the Victorians' obsession with the health benefits of sea air and salt water bathing. Its smaller beach front comprised of pebbles and rocks leads many families, especially those with children and teenagers to entertain, to drive on past to Weston with its rides, amusement arcades and extensive sandy beach. Clevedon then has a quieter, more rarefied air and boasts not only a beautifully restored Grade 1 pier, but an array of eating establishments to suit all tastes.

One such establishment is Tiffin Tea House, just opposite the promenade. The décor is bold and modern in greens and black. A busy place, even in the low season, this independent business has ensured success since its opening in 2010 with an approach to food, drink and customer service that combines care, enthusiasm, quality and variety. The menu lists a comprehensive range of teas and tisanes, including mate, Argentina's favourite brew. Coffee lovers are catered for with a hand made Florentine coffee machine and there's no stinting on the hot chocolate which is made using dark Brazilian chocolate. Food is of the same high quality and beautifully presented. Menus cater for breakfast, light or hearty lunches and afternoon teas, with a very tempting array of cakes and desserts.

Next time you find yourself planning a day out in the south west, or just needing some respite on the way down the M5, remember Clevedon!
